Fuel the Howl – supporting the next chapter of XL426
We have launched a new fundraising campaign called Fuel the Howl, with one clear aim: to raise £20,000 towards replacing the 64 high-pressure fuel hoses across XL426’s four Olympus engines.
There are 16 hoses associated with each engine, and they are now approaching the end of their service life. Replacing them forms part of XL426’s planned preventative maintenance programme, helping to ensure these important components are renewed at the right time to support the continued safe operation of XL426 for years to come.
Fuel the Howl is a little different for the Trust. We have not traditionally run dedicated public appeals for individual engineering projects, but we feel this is an opportunity to give members and supporters a much clearer view of exactly what their donations are helping to fund.
This is not an emergency appeal. It is a planned, time-limited campaign for a specific engineering project, and throughout the coming months we want to take members and supporters with us on that journey.
We’ll be sharing progress towards the £20,000 target, introducing some of the volunteers and engineers involved, explaining more about the Olympus engines and the fuel system, and showing the work as it moves from fundraising into the engineering itself.
We also want Fuel the Howl to be as transparent as possible. If the campaign raises less than the full target, funds will be used towards the work where it remains possible to do so. If circumstances mean the project cannot proceed as planned, or if more is raised than is required, remaining funds will support the ongoing preservation, maintenance and operation of XL426 in accordance with the Trust’s charitable aims and objectives.
