Volunteer
As a wholly voluntary organisation, we depend entirely on our team of volunteers to maintain Vulcan XL426 at London Southend Airport, run our Visit the Vulcan Days and other events and carry out the many ‘behind the scenes’ tasks that keep the Vulcan Restoration Trust up and running.
We are always looking for volunteers to help in the following areas:
- Engineering – working on Vulcan XL426 to maintain her in ground running condition and ensuring her associated ground equpment and spares are kept in good order. At present we are not recruiting any new engineering volunteers except those with current or previous experience working in aircraft engineering.
- Events – helping at our Visit the Vulcan Days and other special events, including working in the Trust’s Hangar Shop and generally ensuring our visitors are well looked after and have a day out to remember.
- Administration – assisting with running the Trust in areas such as fund raising, finance, membership, mail shots and publications.
Volunteering with the Trust can be very rewarding and satisfying. There is a strong sense of camaraderie amongst all our volunteers, all of whom are part of the ‘VRT Team’. Whatever your professional background, skills or interests, there will be a niche which allows you to contribute to the overall success of our organisation.
You must be 18 years or over to volunteer for the Trust. This is due to London Southend Airport rules and Health & Safety legislation.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please complete the short contact form on this page. We will then get in touch with you with more details and invite you to a Familiarisation Day at London Southend Airport where we will discuss how you can help, show you around our facilities and explain what would be expected of you as a volunteer – plus, of course, answering any questions you might have.
Prior to you attending the Familiarisation Day, we will require you to join as a VRT Member. If you're not already a member, you can become one by going to the Join page here on our website.
Following the Familiarisation Day, if you wish to become a volunteer you will need to let us have some further details about yourself and provide a clean basic DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. Full details about this will be given at the Familiarisation Day.
