Visit the Vulcan Day

Sunday, September 20, 2020

Our Visit the Vulcan Days at London Southend Airport are an opportunity for everyone to see former Royal Air Force bomber Avro Vulcan XL426 up close at a very affordable price. With lots to see and no admission fee for under-16s, they are an ideal family day out. You will also have the chance to sit inside the Vulcan's cockpit.

You can walk around and underneath the Vulcan’s huge delta wings and see a rare example of a WE177B nuclear bomb as well as two 1,000 lb High Explosive bombs, the type of bomb the Vulcan dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.

As well as the Vulcan, there is much more to keep the whole family entertained. Please check back nearer the time for details of the exhibits and displays taking place.

Refreshments are on sale from a variety of stalls so no one goes hungry or thirsty. Our souvenir stand will be selling a selection of Vulcan souvenirs, including models, badges, patches, postcards, books, and much more.

General admission is £6.00 for adults with accompanied under-16s admitted FREE. There is a an additional £6.00 charge per person for cockpit tours. This charge applies to all visitors, both adults and under-16s.

Doors open at 10.00 am with last admission at 4.00 pm.

Admission and cockpit tickets are on sale ‘on the door’ – there are no advance ticket sales. Entry is free for Vulcan Restoration Trust members.

Cockpit visits take place every 15 minutes and are done on a timed ticket basis, so there is no need to stand and queue. Space is limited so cockpit visit tickets are subject to availability. When they’re gone, they’re gone!

Visitors can arrive by car, bus or train. London Southend Airport station is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Vulcan and is served by frequent trains on the London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria line - turn left when leaving the station.

Details of train times, local bus services and car parking charges can be found on the London Southend Airport website: www.southendairport.com

If arriving by car, please follow the ‘Vulcan Open Day’ direction signs after entering the airport.

Limited free car parking is available approximately 200 yards from the Vulcan. Disability car parking spaces are just a few yards from the event entrance (no need to book).

If the Vulcan car park is full, visitors will need to park in the airport’s short stay car park (for which there is a charge) which is approximately 10 minutes walk from the Vulcan.

Sorry – due to airport rules, we regret that no pets can be admitted with the exception of assistance dogs.
