Our 2022 Christmas Event & Buffet will take place on Saturday 3 December at Hawkwell Village Hall, Essex SS5 4EH.
As we close off the year during which we have marked the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands conflict, we are delighted to welcome as our guest speaker Squadron Leader Bob Tuxford AFC. Bob was, of course, captain of Victor K2 XL189, which was the last of the outbound refuelling tankers on the first Black Buck raid of the conflict. It was Bob and his crew that made the final air-to-air refuelling ‘hook up’ with Vulcan XM607, before the Vulcan continued on its own, southwards towards the Falkland Islands.
The mission was not without its difficulties, though, which Bob will recall in his talk!
He will also speak more about his long career in aviation. As well as the Victor, Bob flew the Boeing KC-135A Stratotanker whilst on exchange at Strategic Air Command and qualified, in 1983, as a test pilot at the Empire Test Pilots’ School at Boscombe Down. There he carried out flight trials on a wide range of aircraft including all the RAF’s tankers: the Victor, VC10 and the newly-acquired Lockheed TriStar.
Bob has written a book about his career: CONTACT! and he will have copies with him to sign and sell.
The timetable for the day is:
