Squadron Leader Joe Marsden will present his talk about flying the English Electric Canberra jet bomber at our 2019 Christmas Enthusiast’s Event & Buffet on Saturday 30 November at Hawkwell Village Hall, Essex SS5 4EH.
Joe will be also speak on another Cold War related topic, the subject of which he will reveal on the day!.
The Canberra was the Royal Air Force's first jet bomber and entered service in the 1950s. It was finally retired in the 2000s after going on to serve as a reconnaisance aircraft and in many other roles. As well as the RAF, the Canberra saw servce with several overseas air arms, including the US Air Force.
Joe flew the Canberra with the RAF after flying the Vulcan and his talk features photos and film clips illustrating the aircraft’s capability and versatility. Joe has a wealth of facts and anecdotes from his 29 years in the RAF and will talk about flying the Canberra to Gibraltar and Cyprus and some of the more unusual tasks he was asked to perform. He will tell all about the history of the Canberra but will talk mainly about the personal aspects of flying this famous aircraft.
Admittance is by ticket only - there will be no ‘on the door’ sales.

The ticket price includes our famous Christmas Buffet plus dessert and tea or coffee. There will also be a licensed pay bar. Our Vulcan souvenir stall will be in attendance and we will also be offering a number of interesting items for sale by auction, so please bring your wallets, purses and credit cards with you!
What promises to be a great afternoon starts with the doors opening at 12.00 with the buffet lunch beginning at 1.00 p.m. The number of tickets is limited and regularly sell out, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
